Our God is a Covenant God

“But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent
than the old as the covenant he mediates is better,
since it is enacted on better promises.”

“In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete.”
[Heb 8:6, 13a ESV emph mine]

The vein of covenant is promise. And the covenants of God are promise based on His infinite perfection and unfailing character of trustworthiness.

We experience the blessings of God’s New Covenant through faith in Jesus Christ.

Among other things, the New Covenant in Christ promises forgiveness, eternal life, and the Holy Spirit. Something the Old Covenant could not accomplish. Therefore, it has condemned the Old.

Jesus died that we might receive the gift of forgiveness,
rose that we might received the gift of eternal life,
and ascended that we might receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…
                                    as promised.

Those are the most extravagant gifts!

And the New Covenant in Christ – by means of God’s grace, Jesus’ sacrifice, and the Spirit’s power – provides for relationship with the Trinity.

Power from on High the Father promised, the Holy Spirit, is our Covenant Master:
“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—
not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills,
but the Spirit gives life.” [2 Cor 3:6]

Drink deeply from the cup of the New Covenant, purchased by the Blood of Christ and guaranteed by the Spirit.

Marvel at God’s gifts of Easter grace.

I am fully persuaded that You are able to do what You have promised
