The Way of the Traveler
The Winter Olympics will be missed in our household. We thoroughly enjoyed gasping and cheering from the edge of our seats. We marveled at the impressive skills of the athletes from every nation. It's hard to imagine the intense training they endured to reach that level of performance.
What I really enjoy as much as the sport itself is the athletes personal stories. Their road to the games.
The way of their arrival is as unique as each player. They all have one thing in common required to achieve their shared goal. Skill.
We, too, are in diligent training to reach a common destination. While each path and story is as varied as each pilgrim, there is but One Way. Jesus.
He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Only Way to the Father. The Only Absolute Truth. The Source of all Life. There are other paths one can follow. Other ways to go. Other destinations. But not for God's children of His Holy Book. Not for New Testament Christians.
I commend every Olympian for their extraordinary efforts and success. These fine and talented Olympians, however, train for a satisfaction that will not last. For gold that will perish. For glory that will fade away.
They traveled a difficult and demanding road marked with sacrifice and determination. From different directions and with different adversities. Their outcome uncertain. While for the Christian, our Way is sure. Our Reward, Eternal.
